Our Filament
What Are Our 3D Prints Made From?
Our products are printed using PLA (Polylactic Acid) filament, one of the most widely used materials in 3D printing.
PLA is a type of plant-derived bioplastic, commonly made using renewable resources such as corn starch or sugarcane. We love it because it allows us to create detailed, colourful and lightweight pieces in an incredible variety of colours and finishes.
Why We Love PLA
PLA is perfect for creating the fun and detailed designs in our collection. It gives us:
- Beautiful colours, from bright solids and pastels to rainbow, silk and colour-changing filaments.
- Great detail, allowing even the tiniest features of our creatures and characters to come to life.
- A lightweight finish, making our pieces easy to hold, collect and play with.
- Plant-derived materials, PLA is produced from renewable plant-based resources rather than being made entirely from conventional petroleum-based plastics.
Every Print is a Little Different
3D printing works by building an object one tiny layer at a time. Because of this, you may notice fine layer lines, tiny variations or differences in colour placement.
These aren’t necessarily faults, they’re part of the 3D printing process and mean no two pieces are exactly the same.
Rainbow, gradient and multicoloured filaments are especially unique. The colours your piece receives depend on where the filament is in its colour transition while it’s being printed, making each one a little surprise!
Caring for Your 3D Prints
PLA doesn’t love high temperatures. Please don’t leave your 3D printed pieces somewhere that can become extremely hot, such as inside a car on a hot Aussie day.
To clean your pieces, simply wipe them gently with a damp cloth. Avoid dishwashers, boiling water or other sources of high heat.
A Note About Sustainability
While PLA is made using renewable plant-based resources and can be composted under specific industrial composting conditions, it won’t simply break down in your garden or home compost.
We believe it is important to be transparent about this rather than calling our products “biodegradable” or “compostable” without explaining what that actually means.
Made layer by layer, right here by our family.
